Resolution is used to represent the number of pixels in a frame or picture of a video. For example, 2MP, 1920x1080, 1080P.
The higher the number of pixels (resolution), the more detail the resulting image can display. Correspondingly, more processing power and storage space are needed.

Generally the Number of effective pixels will be higher. For example Number of effective pixels for Sony IMX323 is 1985 (H) × 1105 (V) Approx. 2.19M pixels, the number of output pixels is Full HD 1920(H) x 1080(V).
